Mr. Dimitry Ekshtut
Music Educator

Mr. Ekshtut is the music educator at Eagle Harlem. Prior to joining Eagle Harlem, Mr. Ekshtut taught at Eagle Academy in Ocean Hill, Brooklyn for five years, during which time he built and expanded the music department to encompass instrumental and vocal ensembles, music technology, music theory, and partnerships with outside community music organizations.

Born in St. Petersburg, Russia, Mr. Ekshtut immigrated with his family at the age of five to Philadelphia, PA. While in middle and high school, he fell in love with the guitar and jazz music, motivating him to move to New York and pursue a career as a professional musician. He has performed in many venues throughout the city, from small cafes and restaurants to the famed Blue Note Jazz Club. Additionally, Mr. Ekshtut spent several years as a contributing writer and reviewer for a local jazz magazine. He has taught music privately for over ten years, and during his career has worked in a variety of schools encompassing the public, charter, and private sectors. Mr. Ekshtut holds a Bachelor's of Music (Jazz Performance) degree and a Master's of Music Education, both from New York University.

When he is not at work, Mr. Ekshtut enjoys learning, playing music together with friends, and hosting dinners with his wife in their home in Harlem. Mr. Ekshtut is excited about developing a music program at Eagle Harlem and looks forward to meeting all of Eagle's talented current and future student musicians.
